Great spot! Welcome to Project Noah Nibelma!
I´ve looked on your first link and I agree absolutely. Its just the design. Most of all the last shot, that made me think of a slug (it´s just the design). I think, its because of the "tentacles". Kind of Mimicry, haven´t seen such ones before.
These hawkmoth caterpillar are sometimes tricky to ID, since they may completely change their colors depending on the stage they are. Definitely a Sphingidae/Hawk moth and I think it is Xylophanes tersa. http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?search=Xylophanes+tersa&guide=1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Xylophanes_tersa_caterpillar.jpg http://melanys.tripod.com/Sphinx.htm http://www.birds-n-garden.com/tersa_sphinx_hummingbird_moths.html http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/Xylophanes-tersa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xylophanes_tersa http://www.flickr.com/photos/39511843@N07/6551531415 http://www.flickr.com/photos/50820641@N04/6148011831
