Field Notes

Description:

22mm; plain greyish brown moth with small 'eye' markings on wings;

Habitat:

on cut timber post at night artificial light

Notes:

We had one night last week when dozens of different moths appeared near outside light. The ID's will take some time. More to come.

Your moth is similar to and maybe in the same group as the famous (and tiny) bogong moth. I did the same thing (OD'd on moths) in NT last year with a light trap against my tent and an iPhone camera. Argybee. This image may point you in the right direction. There are quite a number in this genus and I suspect the genus but not species is correct. http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au/cato/affinis.html
