Field Notes

Description:

An attractive moth with a wingspan of 30 mm. The white wings show small patterns of red and black. The thorax and head showed some yellow colouring. Eyes and antennae were black.

Habitat:

Spotted in a nature reserve with mixed native vegetation.

Notes:

A red spot is seen at the tornus of the fore wing (oppsosite corner to the apex). This distinguishes this moth from U.lotrix. <br>
The larvae of these moths feeds on several species of plants that don't seem to be native to these parts ?? <br>
U..pulchella occurs in the Northern hemisphere. <br>

Subfamily: Arctiinae

I think so too Charlie- I've been looking at it in books & websites and hoping I'll see one. It was a real surprise today !
