Field Notes

Habitat:

Found on rocks in the surf zone on a mostly sandy beach.

Notes:

These carbonate rocks are part of the Anastasia Formation. Numerous species of algae live on the chitonus bristles on the girdle of this mollusk. The green band seen best in the first photo. 27 epibiotic species of algae and 24 species of invertebrates were found living on the girdle in one study.
