Field Notes

Description:

Adults grow between 30cm - 35cm including the tail. As with most lizards the females are usually smaller than males.
Males are more colourful wereas females and juveniles are more cryptic.
Its primary source of food is insects.

Habitat:

They like a habitat with a lot of rocks like their name says.

Notes:

These lizards are nicknamed the spiderman lizard as during the breeding season the males show stunning markings with the head, neck and part of the tail turning a vivid orange or red and the body turns a deep blue. Outside of the breeding season the males colours are less vivid and more of a dull brown. The females generally have less vivid colouring.

The males are territorial, claiming small to medium-sized patches of land which they defend against other mature males. Juveniles and females reside within the territories unchallenged. The mature males become agitated when confronting each other, nodding vigorously, arching, skipping sideways, and clashing tails. The loser is chased out of the territory. During mating season, males do "push-ups" to attract females.
