Field Notes
Description:
Sanderling on the left, Little Stint on the right. Note that the Stint is slightly browner and more clearly defined pattern than the Sanderling, which has no hind toe. The Stint does have a hind toe but it is small and difficult to see. Sanderlings will often run in and out with the waves but they also form large groups on lagoons, ponds, puddles and riversides near the coast where they wade along the edges up to about knee height and they can be seen running around feeding on beaches away from the shoreline.
Habitat:
Lagoon near coast in volcanic semi-desert.
