Description:

Eristalis tenax is a European hoverfly, known as drone fly because of its resemblance to drone honeybees. It is a significant pollinator and common visitors to flowers in late summer and autumn.

Habitat:

Damp meadow at forest edge, alt. 1300m ASL.

Notes:

The flower is a Devil's-bit Scabious, Succisa pratensis. One of the last insects still active in this area at the time of spotting.
