Field Notes

Description:

A small gorgeously coloured beetle about 6 mm long. Elytra appeared to have a base colour of blue except the outer margins which were clear. Two large golden yellow patterns and red patterns on the elytra make this beetle very attractive even from afar.

Habitat:

On grey box ( Eucalyptus) -suburban garden.

Notes:

The beetle in the first 3 photos shows wider blue margins around the yellow patches, almost obliterating the red. <br> The beetle in pic 4 ( taken on 13/8/17) at Churchill National Park shows some variation- the blue margins are a lot thinner making the red more visible. From afar the beetle looked a shiny red.

Family: Chrysomelidae

This is definately the brightest of the group. I love the red tail lights.
