Description:
A stand of American flamingos at the Tulsa Zoo. The only flamingo that naturally inhabits North America. Not a lot of facts on flamingos, other than their diet making their feathers pink. These things are pretty tall in person. Expected them to be about waist high but no, they're pretty huge. They're also very loud. Quite the pipes for such lanky birds.
Habitat:
The American flamingo breeds in the Galápagos, coastal Colombia, Venezuela and nearby islands, Trinidad and Tobago, along the northern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, Cuba, Hispaniola, The Bahamas, and the Turks and Caicos Islands. It can also be found in Southern Florida but the population has almost been completely eradicated there.
