Field Notes

Description:

Reddish-brown wasp with strong features. About an inch & a half to two inches with big black wings.

Habitat:

This wasp was found on a concrete wall close to two large parking garages. I would assume its nest was near by on the building or located in the nearest grassy area.

Notes:

Red paper wasps are mainly a predatory species which hunts for caterpillar meat to help fuel its colony. These wasps often supply larva with nectar.
