Field Notes

Description:

Adult Ringed kingfisher perched above the water.

Habitat:

Near bodies of water where fish are present. Wooded riparian areas.

Notes:

This bird is one of a mated pair, and its territory still overlaps with that of its juvenile offspring. Usually an evasive bird, this individual allowed the photographer to approach. The juvenile was nearby; perhaps this adult was attempting to draw attention away from it.
