Field Notes

Description:

Several large brown birds with white heads and yellow feet. No further description of this iconic bird is considered necessary.

Habitat:

Pacific northwest insular maritime ecosystem.

Notes:

Spotted while they were actively feeding on the remains of some salmon. The eagles' competition were crows, at least a dozen of them. How the fish carcasses came to be on the strand is unknown, but the birds collectively "cleaned their plates". Within a half hour of this spotting there was no sign that the fish had ever been there.
