Field Notes

Habitat:

Native to southeastern Asia, eastern Africa, Australia and the Pacific Islands, including Hawaii. Introduced to beaches and dunes in Florida.

Notes:

Often mistaken for the very similar native and threatened Inkberry (Scaevola plumieri). The fruit color are a sure give away. This plant has white berries, and its foliage is much more showy. The flowers however are very similar, both being a quite unusual looking "half" flower. See reference page for more detail. And see a spotting of Inkberry here: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/19767869
