Field Notes

Description:

Medium-sized conifer, has a cone-shaped crown.
Reaches 80-140 feet high and 1.5 to 3 feet across.
Ideal conditions may live to 300 years.
Needles are blunt at the tip and green to bluish in colour.
When crushed the needles have a bad odour hence the common name "cat spruce".
Bark is a light greyish- brown and made in irregular skinny scaly plates.

Habitat:

Native throughout North America
