Description:
These flying insects are seen in Oregon at the end of summer.
The markings include a triangle shaped marking on its back and stripes down the sides.
Habitat:
It is native to the western USA (California, Oregon and Nevada) but has in recent times become an invasive species in parts of Europe.
Notes:
Leptoglossus in the family Coreidae, is a 'true bugs' in the leaf-footed bug family. It feeds on the sap of conifer cones (fir, spruce, pine trees). The eggs are laid on the needles or leaf stems of its host plants, and hatch in spring.
In the fall they may sneak inside houses as they look for warm nooks to spend the winter.
