Field Notes

Description:

Large crow. Pure brilliant blue-black plumage. Large bill.

Habitat:

All over Andaman. This one was shot sitting on drift wood while foraging in the inter-tidal zone on Baratang Island. Apart from scavenging the stuff thrown into bins by roadside food stalls these birds also dig down in the soft sand and pull out tubular worms and mollucs too...I observed a couple of these birds for about half an hour. i wondered if they spotted the actual prey or read some signs on the soft mud.

Notes:

Is this Corvus coronoides andamanensis or Corvus levaillantii?
