Field Notes

Description:

Walking a mountain road a kind of whistle coming from a near pine-tree forest called my attention. I thought somebody was calling back his dog. Suddenly a magnificent red kite appear from the trees whistling or wailing a kind of high pitch weieie-ee-ow. It has an elegant, light flight with great elasticity and elegance. It was flying slowly, changing direction continuously and watching carefully the ground, flexing its wings and twisting its long tail from side to side to exploit air currents to the full.

Habitat:

Pine tree forest at the outskirts of a small mountain village. Reserva de la Biosfera del Real Sitio de San Ildefons-El Espinar.

Notes:

Camera Model: NIKON D500. Exposure Time: 1/640 sec.; f/13; ISO Speed Rating: 800. Focal Length: 300.0 mm. No flash fired.
