Field Notes

Description:

Deciduous shrub. Bright yellow flowers hang from the undersides of the leaf nodes. The red-orange flower is the cultivar "Diane". Flowers mid-February - earliest flowering shrub in New England.

Habitat:

Hardwood forests, swamp edges. Partial sun, tolerant of wet soil.

Notes:

These two specimens are part of my native plant garden. I also have wild transplants in the edge of my woods.
