Description:
Seeds of the black cottonwood, a model organism. This is a host for the cottonwood leaf beetle, Chrysomela scripta, which I’ve also recently spotted.
Habitat:
Spotted in a forest clearing just footsteps from Kenai Lake, Alaska. Altitude of ~3000'.
Notes:
Introduced to Alaska in the 1940s. Also known as western balsam-poplar or California poplar.
