Field Notes

Description:

Massive lizard-like reptile with a beautifully patterned skin.

Habitat:

Water monitors of all sizes and skin patterns darting across the road is common and drivers keep an eye open while driving. We were driving over a culvert and the driver spotted this one ...on the side of the water flowing underneath. We drove over the culvert and parked. Then we gingerly descended the slope to the water's edge and realized WHY it was there...across the road on the other side a fisherman was throwing offal and the stinking stuff was good food for the monitor lizard. Anyway it was so busy feeding that we could get good shots.
