Description:

Black and yellow hornet, 1 in. long, with distinctive patterns on head, thorax, and abdomen.

Notes:

Also called Blackjacket and several other names. These American and Canadian hornets have an interesting competitive social hierarchy made up of sterile males, worker females, and a queen. They're omnivorous, and they can squirt venom into the eyes of attackers. Luckily this one was docile and didn't squirt me!
