Field Notes

Description:

34mm body length; lustrous pitted black elytra with orange-yellow band and markings; typically very long antennae;

Habitat:

Usually within eucalyptus in channels under bark; this one had confused the gap at the top of a supermarket door as such a place.

Notes:

It was interesting to watch it check the space then carefully back into the groove.

Comments (1)

This may be the best longicorn that we get down here. Their wood borer larvae may kill some trees but they do turn them into multi storey hotels for many other insect species to occupy.
