Grasshoppers
Poekilocerus bufonius
29.5581, 34.9482
Field Notes
Description:
Black grasshopper (Upher-Hopper) with some yellow stripes (spots)
Habitat:
Eilat (IBRRE)
Notes:
In the photo enclosed you can see two black grasshoppers (a bigger and a smaller one) on a Soddom apple tree. According to web data the species is Poekilocerus bufonius. Because females are brown, these two must be male (black with some yellow stripes). So in the photo they are not mating. I think the bigger one could be a father of the smaller one, a younger generation (a father and a son ?), and perhaps the younger one taking protection/shelter from his father? Or is there some other explanation?
