Field Notes

Description:

This species is quite common in our area and they tend to be a bit raucous; they are good at letting other birds know when raptors have arrived. Usually, we see them alone or in a pair but this winter a crowd of about 8-9 have been visiting berry-laden trees together.

Habitat:

A local nature reserve

What a wonderful blast of color to brighten a winter day! The colors are so defined it looks more like a drawing than a photograph. Incredible!
Thanks for your nice comments, Brian38, SukunyaDatta, ornithoptera80 and Saturniidae27! For some reason, the jays seemed very colorful for a couple weeks and I think their color was highlighted when they perched in pines and cedars.
Nice blue colors, with the conifer background. Beautiful shots Maria dB :)
WoW! What brilliant colours. Brilliant shot too.
Beautiful capture Maria! I've been trying to get that pose, but I seem to scare them off before I can. I did upgrade my camera recently - so I'm running out of excuses.
