Field Notes

Description:

A long thin snake with a narrow head. Greyish green in colour. The eye has a "comma" like marking to the edge of the lip, the black marking is edged with yellow. A white edged dark line is seen from the snout. Many thanks to ShannaB for the ID, I thought it was an Eastern Brown.

Habitat:

This one was in some grass at the side of a river in New South Wales.

The two are easily confused but if you're not sure, best to err on the side of caution. Welcome to Australia! : )
I reckon you might be right there Shanna, many thanks. Only been in Oz for a month and this is the first snake I've seen.
Hey Mike, I think that's actually a mildly venomous Yellow-Faced Whip Snake. Pretty common around the northern suburbs of Sydney. http://www.wildlifeqld.com.au/Whip_Snake.html http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8642414
