Habitat:

Radnor Lake state park, Tennessee.

Thanks bealburton! The Wood anemone is listed in the Audubon field guide for the South East US but I notice it should have 5 petals. The leaves are wrong for spring cress so I will mark this as unknown.
I looked at the reference you listed and it says that it's a European flower, and your spotting is in Tennessee. It doesn't quite look right for what Wikipedia says is the American version of Wood Anemone either. I think perhaps Spring Cress, or some relation, rather than an anemone?
