Description:

This is either the Black or Blue (subspecies of black) Elderberry. I need to wait until it has fruit to distinguish which one. Both are native to California. This is a deciduous shrub with large corymbs of white flowers. Leaves are serrated and green.

Habitat:

Along Mule Hill trail

Notes:

Very toxic plant except ripe fruit which are edible after cooking and can be used to make jam, jelly, chutney and Pontack sauce. Aka Elder, Elderberry, Black Elder, European Elder, European Elderberry, European Black Elderberry, Common Elder, or Elder Bush
