Field Notes
Description:
A small fast moving spider about 9 mm long with glossy black large cephalothorax and a smaller black abdomen with 5 creamy white spots.
The legs had small bands of white and black in the coxa and femur with the rest of the leg being orange. <br>
The Palps were large and club-shaped suggesting that this was a male spider.
Habitat:
Spotted in a nature reserve.
Notes:
Quite an attractive spider. This one had a dusting of white ( debris ?) making it difficult to discern the exact number of white spots on the abdomen. <br>
They are said to live under leaves and stones and sometimes in burrows. They are day time hunters and said to live with ants, mimicking their behaviour and sometimes, even their chemical traits. <br>
There are at least 110 species in Australia. <br>
Possibly S.maculata <br>
