Field Notes

Description:

Very small orchid root system, whole thing could sit atop a coin. Has a seed pod, No foliage. Possibly a "Ghost" orchid. Its alive and growing, see second photo. I will document its growth this coming spring and summer.

Habitat:

epiphyte in wetland

Notes:

Hopefully this is an "Ghost Orchid". Im a big fan of orchids and have hoped to see a ghost my whole life. Keep your fingers crossed, I will visit this tree every week and whenever possible. Original spotting photo on 1/16/12. photo #2 on 2/28/12.

Hi, that is definitely not a ghost orchid (Dendrophylax lindenii). Looks like it could be a jingle bell orchid (Dendrophylax porrectus).
