Description:

This bee was sitting outside of a hive that is in an old oak tree. I will post a pic of the hive, there is a hole in an oak and I have no idea how far down the hive goes. He doesn't look like he has a stinger. My niece and I are ordering 2 honey bee colonies, we want to raise honey bees but I don't know what the hive is that is on our property, any ideas?

Species ID Suggestions

Western honey bee

Apis mellifera

Probably the folks you're buying the hives from can help you identify your local bees. This is a lovely picture!
