should belong into the ascomyceten, when it isn't a exception, most of the other cup-fungus are. take a look at the : peziza family. here a similiar looking one ( http://www.soortenbank.nl/soorten.php?so... ), but beter look for local "cup" fungus (peziza is also just 1 of this family ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ascomycota ) )good luck.{----- the second link wasn't right , sorry}
here cindy try this : ( http://www.mushroomexpert.com/cups.html ). i could do something for you with this, but you expirienced it close by. i looked for other possbilities, because the color but maybe it is just the light. try it: good luck :)
OK, I narrowed it down to two, both are Peziza (great job Alex)! The two options are in the notes along with a reference link. Let me know what you think :)
Oh gosh, I searched for it as a genus name :( Got it. We have 26 species documented here. I'll start searching. Thank you both!
Hi ulvalactuca77, I wasn't able to find documentation of Ascomycota found in California but thank you for the suggestion!
