Field Notes

Description:

Large ball python digesting his latest kill - a giant rat.

Habitat:

Originally found in Africa, these snakes are now kept as pets around the world. This one lives with others in Poway, California.

Notes:

This snake is friendly and not dangerous to humans. He eats in a separate enclosure than the one it lives in so he doesn't confuse our hands with another meal. Usually he eats 1 or 2 rats during each feeding time.

Looks more like a blood python to me, but I'm no expert.
Never mind I see how it could be a Bp
From the picture that is the head of a boa could you upload a picture of the full snake
I'm fairly certain it's a Ball Python, it has a slightly different skull structure and pattern than a boa.
The rat is hurt by their relationship however the snake gets a meal from it. Since only 1 organism is benefiting form their relationship, it's predation. I've been trying to add a video of the hunt to my spotting, but I haven't been able to upload any videos before.
Hi Coral! I see you have added this to the Symbiotic Relationships mission - can you tell us what the relationship is here?
