Missed this one - absolutely splendid ! But who is Jim Thorpe (notes) ?
Wow! I didn't realize they rubbed their abdomen on their wings to make a noise as well (you don't get that info from pictures usually)! This is a wonderful series. Please consider adding this to the Marvelous Mantids of the North East mission: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/15738247

If I can figure out how-I'll post the video-cos it's cool-this mantis made some interesting sounds with it wings.
Beautiful! I've never seen one with its wings spread like this.
