Field Notes

Description:

Trying very hard not to be noticed on Allocasuarina ?verticillata
I wasn't even sure this wasn't a bifurcated she-oak 'leaf'.
Approx 18mm long

Habitat:

The trees were planted as a border to a local sports field.

Notes:

Fantastic camouflage and the behaviour was also appropriate being a typical loop shape while feeding but immediately going rigid when alarmed.
I'm now thinking it is one of the Geometrinae http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au/geom/geom-cats.html
Dr Cathy Young-Byrne has doen a lot of work on these - http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au/logos/cathyy.html
