Field Notes

Description:

80 - 90cm length, over 120cm wingspan, black color with yellow throat-patch, weight 1,5 up to 5kg, lifespan up to 8 years. Eats fish, and sometimes rats. Dives very well.

Habitat:

Coasts, estuaries, deltas, large bodies of water. In the warm winters stays, and in cold winters migrates south. Nests in colonies sometimes in mixture with pelicans. 3 - 4 eggs, babies hatches in 28 - 30 days, and they stay in the nest around 7 weeks.
This one is from a group of 5, that stayed for several days in the center of the city where they could find a small part of the river that was not frozen.
