Field Notes

Description:

Black-billed magpies are about 45–60 cm (18–24 in) long, with males being slightly larger than females. The tail makes up to a half of the bird's length. Mostly black with white below and with white shoulders. Wings and tail are dark and iridescent. Wings flash white in flight.

Habitat:

Widely distributed in cold, dry climates such as prairies, mountains, and open to semi-open forests.
