Field Notes
Description:
One of the most common hawks in North America. Large hawk with broad, rounded wings and a short, wide tail. Rich brown above and pale below with a streaked belly and underside of the wings. The tail is cinnamon-red above and pale below.
Habitat:
Open country, along fields and perched on telephones poles, fenceposts, or trees standing alone or along edges of fields. Slowly turning circles as they search for prey.
