Field Notes

Description:

Very active small bee, all black, the only bee still feeding on the last goldenrod, many individuals were active and difficult to photograph as they were wary and going quickly from flower to flower. I posted better pictures of a similar species before but this is our last visitor active on our flowers this year it would seem.

Habitat:

A garden of native plants that were self-seeded and not weeded! natives are hardier and the tiny bees clearly prefer them to the ZOMBIE GARDEN variety flowers that either lack nectar and pollen or just don't have enough of it to feed so many insects. The local native tiny bee species, more than 6 at least, visit only the wild selfseeded wildflowers we have restored our land with in place of lawn (deadzone for insects).
