Be nice, I walked through poison oak for these shots :) Of course I was in pants and boots!

I see what you mean. We do have Pleurotus ostreatus but I ruled it out since mine is so yellow. These fungi really confuse me :)

Alright - though the Pleurotus cornucopiae is pretty common. But if that's also for Cali, I can't tell. I just had a view on my specimen of Pleurotus cornucopiae ( http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/9096476 ) and noticed the gills to be different...stronger. But the look of yours might be a result of decay.

I'll return next week. I wasn't able to find records of P. cornucopiae here in Cali but there are others. The only one with orange color that I could find is Phyllotopsis nidulans that use to be part of the Pleurotus genus.

As for my suggest - you need to check the stem. If the gills go over with the stem, it's the suggested species Pleurotus cornucopiae

Hi Clive, fungi is by far my worst organism in terms of knowledge! Pleurotus looks right and we do have a few here in Cali but I wasn't able to find a yellow one. Do they tend to change color?
