Field Notes

Description:

Antaresia maculosa is a non-venomous python species found in northern Australia. Adults average about 100-140cm in length. It has an irregular, blotched colour pattern throughout its life.

Habitat:

Phillip Island Wildlife Park.

Found in most types of habitats, but prefers rocky hillsides and outcrops with crevices and caves.

Notes:

The ID is correct, Pam. One of my all-time favourite snakes. In sunlight they radiate the most beautiful blue sheen. A dear friend of mine has this beautiful little lady which she shows for educational purposes in schools - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/32505459 and if ever I was to have pet reptile, this would be my choice. I smile just thinking about her :-)
