Field Notes

Description:

Light grey lizard with faint specks or mottling.

Habitat:

Rainforest. On the trail leading to the Limestone caves on Baratang Island. The route is slippery and uneven. Tourists have to often negotiate steep but short drops and they reach out for support clutching whatever they can. There was this mound of earth and a series of palms were hitting it. The lizard sat inches away on the mound...did not flinch or move. Incredibly, NO ONE spotted it. It was dark because of closed canopy and also because of the clouds accompanying Cyclone Hudhud.
