Field Notes

Description:

Beautiful bright blue flowers about 15 mm wide and a star burst of stamens arising from the centre. Each of the six petals had three veins.
It was difficult to locate the leaves but they are said to be prostrate and die-off after flowering.

Habitat:

spotted in semi-shade in eucalypt forest.

Notes:

Described as a tufted perennial herb, the plant is short lived and each flower lasts for just one day. Not known to be attractive to birds or lepidoterans. <br>

Vinny, I considered myself so lucky when I read about their short lifespan and to see maybe three of them in bloom is a bonus. @Maria - thanks - they were a bright blue.
Each flower lasts just a day, I didn't know that. I have noticed them closing up in the evening thought they might be like sun orchids. Makes it feel like a bit of a privilege to see one in flower.
