Description:

This Earwig belongs to the Order: Dermaptera De Geer, 1773. There seems to be little information available on the internet for this insect. So I will try to describe it in my own amateurish way. Starting from front to back; I counted 17 segments on the antennae all of which are coloured dark brown, except segments 12 & 13 which appear yellowish. The head and pronotum are black. The thorax is brown as are the tegmina. The abdominal segments are brown except for the last two which are black and the cercus is black. Now for the legs; All of the legs appear to have a black femur, patella and tibia. The tarsus and metatarsus are the same yellowish colour as segments 12 & 13 of the antennae. As for the claws, I really cannot see them clearly in my photos, but I think they are black.

Habitat:

Spotted in our backyard on some bananas which had just been harvested. When I tried to take a photo, it flew onto a pot plant.
