Field Notes

Description:

Fat caterpillar, possibly a hawk moth

Habitat:

Semi-arid lands, acacia scrub and euphorbias

Notes:

Violent popping action as defense, leap and twist to change body curve, startles predators and keeps them from getting too close. Both my cat and a vervet monkey were investigating this creature, neither could get close enough to decide if it was edible!
