Field Notes

Description:

22mm body length; all body charcoal with 2 white commas where wings might develop and 2 central white spots towards tail; 4 segments in antennae purple-black with final segment orange

Habitat:

On eucalyptus leaf. Suburban fringe to state forest.

Notes:

This is the 5th instar.
Also name "Holy Cross bug".
How does it go from 5th pattern to the cross.. amazing.
