Field Notes

Description:

This pine tree is about 60 ft tall. Picture number 2,3,5 shows the arrangement of pines needles. The needles seem to be arranged in a whorl and at the edge of each whorl is a pine cone sprouting.
Picture number 4 shows the kind of pine cones.

Did you check the genus of Junipers (Juniperus) already? Looking at the branches and the buds i could imagine that there might be some matches. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juniperus

Lars , i put it back on the unknown ,unidentified list.

In fact Lars these cones are the ones which are puzzling me. I cannot relate them to any species!

I can't really tell, Emma. I am not familiar with American trees - but as far as i would judge it, the cones do not speak much for the genus of larix. The Tamarack larch's cones look pretty similar to the European Larch ones. So I'd exclude at least your assumption of that species.
