Description:
About 20 cm in length, the East Atlantic peacock wrasse has an oval and slightly elongated body and laterally flattened. It sports a small protruding mouth. The main color is silvery grey, but it sports two horizontal brownish lateral lines. Portrayed here probably a female or a juvenile - adult males are said to be more colourful.
Habitat:
Native to East Atlantic, Mediterranean and Black sea, the Peacock wrasse is a common litoral fish in Adriatic, found in shallow waters close to shores. This summer (as each and every summer) we observed it on every beach in the area, between rocks and on rocky bottoms in shallow waters close to shores. Here, in a bay with several popular beaches (and rather crowded).
