Yellowjacket

Yellow Jacket. The yellow jacket is the common name for this wasp in North America. This yellow jacket is black and yellow and its relative "bald-faced hornet" is black and white. All female yellow jackets are capable of stinging. The stings are quite painful. Are commonly found along forest edges and can make their lives nearer the ground. When cold weather begins, the males will die off and only the mated females will survive into the following year to make new generations.
