Nudibranch

This is actually another species which has long been identified as a synonym for Caloria elegans. Although Caloria elegans has many color variations on the cerata. that is mostly due to the food source. Caloria elegans has papillate rhinophores while Facelina quatrefagesi has lamellate rhinophores and the cerata are always red or dark orange. Nevertheless, until there is a molecular revision on the Facelinidae, the status of both species remains disputed. The recent book "Nudibranchi del Mediterraneo" by Egidio Trainito and Mauro Doneddu reinstated Facelina quatrefagesi based on morphological variations.
