Field Notes

Description:

A slender bodied shark with a blunt snout and a short barbel next to each nasal opening. Brownish with scattered dark spots and a large black spot ringed with white on each side above the pectoral fins. Max size is 107 cm.

Habitat:

Found in northern Australia and New Guinea.

Notes:

Found on a night dive in the Palm islands. One of the bamboo sharks, family Hemiscyllidae. Was swimming on the bottom through some coral rubble, and sticking its head under bombies to look for food.
